Astralis is a grantmaking foundation working to make advanced AI secure and beneficial for all. We pool money from donors in several countries and take none from major AI companies, their employees or AI industry associations.
Our giving is scaling quickly, including into new areas, so grantmakers' portfolios grow rather than stay fixed. We source our own grants rather than wait for proposals, and where it fits our strategy we build new grantmaking areas around the right people.
Operations and advising are similar. Grant tracking, cross-border payments, donor relations and forecasting are mostly being built rather than maintained, usually by the people who will then run them.
We hire for judgement rather than years. Several of the team arrived without expertise in China or EU policy, and some joined early in their careers. What matters is spotting gaps, showing your reasoning so others can check it, prioritising when several things all look important, and being open about mistakes. If you meet some but not all of what a role asks for, err on the side of applying.
We invest a lot in management and growth. Everyone has a development plan, and weekly one-to-ones that cover goals, workload, development and what your manager could do better. We try to accommodate individual preferences; part-time and remote working are normal here.
If you think you'd be a strong fit, write to hiring@astralisfoundation.org and tell us what you're looking to do. Open roles, when we have them, are on our jobs page.
